Internship Assessment

M Bhuvana phanindra
Roll no:97

During my enriching tenure as a house surgeon at Kim's narketpally , I had the incredible opportunity to immerse myself in the diverse and challenging fields of General Medicine, Psychiatry, casualty and Nephrology. These rotations have not only expanded my clinical knowledge but also refined my interpersonal and diagnostic skills, preparing me to be a well-rounded medical professional.

As I reflect on my journey as a house surgeon  I'm humbled by the rich tapestry of experiences I've encountered during my rotations in the general medicine department.

In the General Medicine department, I encountered a myriad of complex cases that tested our diagnostic acumen. One notable scenario involved a young girl in her late teens  presenting with vague symptoms such as fatigue, jaundice and anemia. Through meticulous history-taking, physical examination, and collaboration with senior physicians, we successfully diagnosed an autoimmune disorder which can cause  haemolytic anemia. This experience highlighted the importance of thorough evaluation and effective teamwork in unraveling intricate medical puzzles.

During my time in the medical ward, I've witnessed the incredible strength and determination of patients battling various illnesses. The triumphant moments when a patient overcomes a chronic condition fill me with inspiration, while the moments of empathy for those still fighting remind me of the importance of patient counciling andcompassionate care.
some of the cases I have been traveling with, which gave me a total comprehensive and holistic approach towards the way clinicians operate in a tertiary care centre:

Transitioning to the medical ICU was a transformative phase.Despite battling fatigue from working tirelessly through the night, I managed to find moments to both rest and provide care for the patients. The intensity of critical care was a stark reminder of the delicate balance between life and its fragility. The exhilaration of assisting in life-saving procedures was coupled with the somber reality of facing heartbreaking losses. The adrenaline of emergencies honed my quick thinking, and the quieter moments led to deep reflections on the boundaries of medical intervention.

My time in Psychiatry was equally enlightening. I engaged with patients facing various mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. One memorable case centered on a young individual grappling with acute psychosis. Through compassionate communication and close observation, I learned the significance of establishing rapport and tailoring treatment plans to individual needs. Participating in group therapy sessions also underscored the power of peer support in the healing process.

In the Nephrology department, I delved into the realm of renal medicine, encountering patients with acute kidney injuries and chronic renal diseases. One particularly impactful scenario involved a critically ill patient requiring urgent hemodialysis due to severe electrolyte imbalances. Collaborating with the nephrology team, I actively contributed to stabilizing the patient and managing the dialysis procedure. This experience emphasized the urgency of timely intervention and reinforced the importance of swift decision-making in critical situations.
Throughout my internship, I witnessed the profound impact of comprehensive patient-centered care. Whether it was interpreting lab results, conducting thorough physical examinations, or empathetically communicating with patients and their families, I recognized that each aspect of medical practice contributes to holistic healing.
In conclusion, my internship in General Medicine, Psychiatry, and Nephrology  has been an invaluable journey of growth and learning. The diverse scenarios I encountered have equipped me with the skills and confidence to approach medical challenges with a holistic perspective. I am deeply grateful for the guidance of my mentors and the opportunities to contribute to patient care. As I move forward in my medical career, I am committed to upholding the principles of excellence, empathy, and collaboration that I have cultivated during this transformative experience.
As I compile this summary report, I recognize that these rotations have molded me into a more resilient, empathetic, and skilled medical practitioner. The emotional rollercoaster I've ridden has prepared me for a career where challenges are met with unwavering dedication. I look forward to applying the lessons learned and the connections forged as I continue to be a beacon of hope and healing in the realm of medicine.
